Why you'd think he was a right-wing cultist with no conception of the anger and hostility SCOTUS has earned from decent Americans.

9 circuits in 19th century so 9 justices. 13 circuits now so 13 justices. This writer is clueless and/or partisan.
-
that's silly. nobody's advocating this because of the number of circuits. just like FDR didn't care about helping old justices. this is always and forevermore about changing the results of cases.

Constitution literally says Congress has oversight of the courts. Same principle that lets GOP rush to confirm a justice in the middle of an election also lets Congress change size of the courts, something the GOP attempted themselves just a few years ago!https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Court-Packing_Act …

Once upon a time, back when I was in college, Newsweek was a reliable source of serious journalism. But ever since it was sold, that magazine has tended to eschew sober reporting and analysis, preferring instead to let its inner right-wing freak flag fly.

The "Merrick Garland blockade" and "rush to confirm Barrett" (both phrases absurdities) are simply Republicans playing by Democrats rules (i.e. no rules). Switch positions and Dems would have done exactly the same things, and you'd have been cheering them on.
