Renters make up the majority of residents in LA, but far too often tenants are left feeling powerless, battling against the entire system to stay in their homes. If we want to solve our homelessness crisis, we need to implement common sense renter protections.

Landlords pull this shit because they think they can get away with it. The only answer is organized tenant power.

Tenant speaks about constant harassment he faces from his landlord. Tenants deserve protections against these kinds of aggressions - many times this is a tactic to displace people so they can charge higher rent to the next person. #HousingIsAHumanRight, not a luxury!

Karen Bass, you talked the talk when you came to before the election with , but will you walk the walk and come back to the building like you promised now that tenants are on the brink of eviction with the moratorium ending in Feb? 🤔

Dear @MayorOfLA Karen Bass, You are invited to dine w/ the Hillside Villa Tenants Association on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 7:00pm. We will have dinner provided in our courtyard. You say ending homelessness is a priority -- come hear from tenants facing eviction in February.

Karen Bass , come meet with the Hillside Villa Tenants -- dozens of families facing eviction when the COVID-19 protections end in February. You will not make a dent in homelessness without keeping tenants in their homes.

We have to carpool out to Malibu to protest our landlord, whose house we pay for. City Council needs to stop treating people who just suck money out of the city as constituents.

Ownership of property and rent payments are one of the major ways the rich exploit the poor. Our rent pays for their mansions, their private schools, their luxury vacations. Minor reforms do not cut it. We are fighting to end this system of class domination. twitter.com/spiroferrer/st…

KDL sneaking in to record a vote on the homelessness emergency declaration but not caring enough about renters to vote with the tenants bloc is indicative once again that his supposed determination to govern for the marginalized people in his district is all for show

The motion to remove the Jan 31 end date to the emergency got 6 votes from our pro-tenant bloc. It was not enough this time, but thank you @HugoForCD13 @EunissesH @cd4losangeles @mhdcd8 @CW_HeatherHutt @KatyForLA for standing up for the right thing. twitter.com/HugoForCD13/st…

Solidarity with Jason, who has consistently fought side by side with us and tenants across the city. When city council members demand civility, remember this is who they really are.

RIGHT NOW: Disgraced Los Angeles City Councilmember Kevin De Leon JUST assaulted local organizer Jason Reedy. @kdeleon is out here assaulting people AGAIN. He was caught on those racist anti-Black leaked tapes and now he’s assaulting Black folks. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

One of the @KeepLAHoused organizers got this text yesterday from a tenant in LA County. @LACityCouncil/@LACountyBOS electeds need to understand a few things: tenants have a ton of COVID rent debt, ERAP didn't cover it all/some people are still waiting/were wrongfully denied...

Landlords with illegal AirBnB units and open harassment complaints that LAHD will never investigate are gonna show up tomorrow, begging to restart evictions. Business as usual is writing blank checks for evictions and sweeps, but having no budget to enforce tenant protections.

New report says 45% of LA’s Airbnb listings may be breaking the law. “The city could have collected up to about $300 million in fines last year due to violations. But it levied less than $40k in fines over a similar time period.” #NoMoreBusinessAsUsual laist.com/news/housing-h

& : We need to extend emergency tenant protections until permanent protections are adopted. We cannot leave tenants unprotected and vulnerable especially as we enter the new year!

Today, Jackson is a member of the Los Angeles Tenants Union; she displays a poster in her garden for the organization that reads, “This tenant is safe and cannot be evicted.”  “People like me were already fighting individually... But now I fight with a union of people.”
