Okay I should probably take this opportunity to explain why this kind of thing from liberals is harmful. It's pretty clear that this kind of incredibly condescending approach is not going to change anyone's mind. But that's not even the actual goal.

This type of "get vaxxed, you fucking idiots" content functions to perform a particular kind of self-righteous liberalism, for the benefit of other liberals. It solidifies their correctness and reassures them that their anger is justified. And you know what? It is! BUT

It's not helpful. At all Condescending to & insulting people is not a form of communication that comes from an actual desire to see more people get vaccinated. It's perfect fuel for right-wing grifters who weaponize and push grievance politics. "They think you're stupid!"

I want more people to get vaccinated too. But the first step in solving a problem is understanding the problem. Solutions that focus on individuals, especially using shame, are doomed to fail because the problems are structural: Facebook disinformation. For-profit media.

Not to mention the people who are afraid of missing work due to side effects from the vaccine, and getting fired. That's a valid concern, and something that could be addressed with worker protections. We need to find out what actually *works* to up vaccine rates, and do that.

In the meantime, this smug, self-satisfied bullshit only serves to confirm everything that people hate about liberals, leaving us even more polarized & blaming each other rather than failing infrastructure and the disaster capitalists making out like bandits during this pandemic.

And to be 100% clear, you have every right to be extremely angry. Full on anti-vaxxers are enormous dicks. Redirecting that easy rage to more difficult and worthwhile targets is hard. But it has to be done. We can't tell exhausted hospital workers that we're not willing to try.

Other structural reasons for vaccine hesitance that are more productive to think about than "people are stupid": β€’ for-profit & underfunded health care eroding people's faith in public health β€’ under-funded education systems not teaching science & critical thinking skills

β€’ evangelical capture of public institutions further eroding critical thinking skills β€’ Big Pharma making people justifiably skeptical of their motives β€’ capitalists who essentially pay conservatives to defund public institutions and keep tax rates murderously low

β€’ political polarization turning the working class against each other and making people align ideologically with capitalist political parties like they're sports teams β€’ facebook... just, facebook
