Pretty sure I hold leftists to higher standards than people on the right and I don't know why Like I'm rarely disappointed by the right but often by the left Unsure what this suggests about the general direction of my bias, i could tell stories either way

A guess: you've spent most of your life in places with predominantly leftist cultures and thus are way more attuned to failure modes of the left. A neighbor's minor transgressions are usually more annoying than those of someone a few states away, regardless of relative severity.

That makes sense to me. When I hear a politically heterodox person say something dumb and catchy, it's funny, but when someone from the orthodoxy says something dumb and catchy, I just know I'll have to hear it over and over until it goes out of fashion and I dread it.

It feels like a mainstream & played out vs. edgy & underground subculture product sort of fashion trend chasing thing. Obviously that's not 100 percent of it, people still (hopefully) evaluate ideas based on their merits, but this still seems to have some explanatory power.
