Pretty sure I hold leftists to higher standards than people on the right and I don't know why Like I'm rarely disappointed by the right but often by the left Unsure what this suggests about the general direction of my bias, i could tell stories either way

Yeah The right is still my fargroup I think Which is weird, it started as an outgroup for me Related possibility: I'm a left apostate

This dynamic applies to me too, I think. It doesn't feel like it from the inside, but taking the outside view it's not unlikely I just got bored with what initially seemed like transgressive right-ish hot takes
-
maybe those takes are ultimately just a reaction to something which is inherently boring and carries within it the death force

That makes sense to me. When I hear a politically heterodox person say something dumb and catchy, it's funny, but when someone from the orthodoxy says something dumb and catchy, I just know I'll have to hear it over and over until it goes out of fashion and I dread it.

It feels like a mainstream & played out vs. edgy & underground subculture product sort of fashion trend chasing thing. Obviously that's not 100 percent of it, people still (hopefully) evaluate ideas based on their merits, but this still seems to have some explanatory power.
