Both. Either. Racing a half is a good idea if you are looking for a prediction as to the pace you can handle in a full marathon. Or you can just float the run as a fun workout.https://twitter.com/polneill/status/1081244272182083584 …

Complex carbohydrates beat simple carbs any day: Go for starch in plant foods, which include fruits, vegetables, bread, pasta, and legumes.

Watch what you eat while tapering. If running less, you are also burning fewer calories. This could mean you gain a pound or so--no big deal. To keep from piling on extra pounds, you could eliminate junk food from your regular diet during the taper week.

Breakfast does not need to be French toast covered with whipped cream and strawberries with sausage on the side. Think snack. Even a Granola bar and juice and/or coffee might at least get you moving in the morning.https://twitter.com/ARatcliffePT/status/1081101349926957056 …

Cross-country skiing is cross-training. I'm not sure about downhill, except lugging the heavy equipment around the resort probably qualifies as strength training.https://twitter.com/pollymollymoo/status/1081136282078715904 …

I don't know if you have any dogs that can be walked for an hour, but rather than take an extra rest day, I would like to see you do something on the cross training day.https://twitter.com/killianbyrne/status/1081170757638594560 …

You can run fast and still have fun. Some of my more enjoyable marathons were those I won, or nabbed a fast time.https://twitter.com/SamsSongg/status/1080947835661623297 …

"In the morning" covers a lot of ground, from 4 AM to 10 AMl. Ideally I like 4 hours before a lengthy run. For shorter runs a snack or a sip might be enough. But each runner has to figure out his/her own strategy--perhaps with the help of an RD.https://twitter.com/oscarussell/status/1080907714656522240 …

Back in the Golden Age, runners rarely ate (or drank) before their runs. Top runners like Emil Zatopek and Jack Foster ran on empty, so it wouldn't rattle their stomach or cause ducks into the woods. (No Porta-Potties years ago). But today's runners are smarter and faster.https://twitter.com/effingpleb/status/1080938069208059906 …

Too many runners skip breakfast, then wonder why they are tired while running in the evening.

Sleep loss is progressive. You can shortchange sleep for days, even weeks, but sooner or later it will catch up with you.

TAPER MADNESS: While 3 weeks tapering OFFERS a positive effect physically, it can have a negative effect psychologically. As runners run fewer miles during the final weeks before a marathon, they suddenly find themselves with too much time on their hands. Relax. You will survive

I already post my Tips of the Day to Twitter. I first post the Tip on my FB friend page, then my FB fan page, then come over here and cut and paste it into the Tweet box and, if necessary, shorten it to 280 characters. My tweet Wednesday "Timing pre-race nutrition" was such a tiphttps://twitter.com/TheDoctorMurph/status/1080582650962808833 …

A friend on Facebook worries about road camber. I wrote: "Some roads are more angled than others. The middle is best, assuming there is not too much of a crowd. As to trying to match your race camber with your training camber, I suggest going for the flat spot in training too."
