Many people who stutter report decreased participation in life events, along with embarrassment and anxiety, which might be driven by repetitive negative thinking (RNT). Tichenor & Yaruss (2019) reported that...

Unfortunately, I think this extends to implicit bias toward women in grant reviews and invitations to participate in prestigious special journal issues, conference keynote speakers, etc. There is still a long way to go...

Finally got around to finishing this excellent book. clearly lays out how innate traits- including those seen in neurodvtal disorders- not only arise from genetic differences but also brain development and function and random variations at the individual level. 🤓

By talking about supporting stuttering kids during the debate last night, opened himself up to the public about his own personal history of stuttering. Mocking responses that followed sadly reminds me of the significant bullying still experienced by those who .

New preprint reporting significant spatial correspondence between stuttering gene (GNPTG) expression and gray matter volume changes in children who stutter. Findings are consistent with earlier published findings involving functional connectivity changes:

Come chat with me at my poster (#615) today at 4:30! Functionally distinct Inferior frontal gyrus clusters defined with meta-analytic connectivity-based segregation were used as seeds for tractography to compare structural connectivity patterns in children who stutter.

After actually reading the full article, I see the point of the title. It would be empowering if Biden says he still stutters sometimes and that is ok. The “overcoming” narrative can be disheartening, as stuttering can’t be willed away for most and therapy options remain limited

Unlike what the title suggests, VP Biden has been open about his stuttering in the past and gave speeches at stuttering support events. Interesting article focusing on Mr. Biden's stuttering.

Check out E. Garnett's poster at today at 4:30p (#589). Results from whole-brain network analysis show that functional integration and segregation among major neural networks differ in stuttering speakers during both rest and overt speech production.
