Will it ever be about censorship? I doubt it. I'm not empowered by anybody, so censoring people isn't my call, but if you read the article then this won't be news to you so I won't labor that point. However,...

If you read the article, then you also saw that I have experience moderating forums. Specifically, I moderated two default subreddits that host millions of readers with thousands of users interacting per day, so I know something about censorship and its trappings.

Maintaining a just balance between open communication and sensible rules in order to grow a community is tough. One overly restrictive rule, enforced strictly will whip the ire of even your longest standing community members.

But I can tell you that forums without moderation don't work well. Even platforms we consider unique for their openness do still have rules and moderation. Ultimately it's up to the people running the platform to decide how their platform can be used.

So if censorship isn't the point, then what is? Accountability. Anonymity is great for people who have controversial opinions and want to discuss those opinions with others who share their beliefs.

There's something to be said for someone who takes responsibility for what they believe; someone who takes off their mask and owns their thoughts in true name, inviting judgement with open arms regardless of whether it's positive or negative.

I live by this rule myself. #Nemesis is controversial. It would have been very easy for me to develop this covertly and deploy it without attaching my name to it, but in my opinion, that would make me a coward.

Unfortunately, not everyone does live by this rule, and that's why they need to hide behind usernames, hijacking obscure symbolism and attaching their own ideology to it. All Nemesis does is identify the symbolism.
