I can't believe it's been 10 years. What's exciting is that I am still making new discoveries. There are so many films to see!

A profound moment in film history, and (at least indirectly) a rebuke to the American maximalist ethos of over-the-top action, special effects and the rest of it.

I think what stunned me was that it's made only of photographs and yet it's so alive. I think it was the experimentation and the emotion together that was the revelation. I didn't know film could take me to those places inside myself. This film really moved me and made me feel.

Tried to watch Sans Soleil again the other night. Sadly, I agree with the NYT’s Vincent Canby’s assessment (which can be read on the Wikipedia entry for the film). But I remember loving La Jetée even more than Twelve Monkeys which I loved and which Marker’s film inspired

I tried to watch Sans Soleil myself years ago but couldn't quite get into it for some reason. I will probably revisit this year and watch more Marker because of this anniversary.
