#TheRehearsal as commentary on the moral costs of existential crises under late capitalism; Nathan Fielder with the single most effective use of buttcrack as dramatic device in all of history; who will be writing these dissertations?

This is a very important thread about Grover, the best Muppet.

Not trying to start an intergenerational gen x/elder millennial vs. younger millennial/gen z war, but can we all agree that it's a legit bummer that Sesame Street demoted Grover (very funny, complex character) for Elmo (not funny, his only bit is speaking in the 3rd person)?

In which I find myself in the most fascinating mystery

CASE OF THE GODDESS OF STRIFE AND DISCORD CHAPTER 5 I check my watch. It’s already ten after and @NailaLibrarian hasn’t shown up yet. She’s never late, not even by a minute, and she hasn’t texted or called me back, which worries me. #WomenOfMystery #WOMCouncil 🧵⬇️ (1/6)

This — and I say this as someone who was part of that story-extracting machinery — is the very thing that we should be interrogating. Who owns our stories? Who profits from our stories? At what social, cultural, and, yes, spiritual cost that ownership/profit dynamic?

Disney owns our stories. For some people-- both those who have another "traditional" religion and those who don't-- the promise of magic at Disney and the feelings they get there are powerful. I've seen people cry at the fireworks. Many times.

For anyone who’s ever told a female-identifying human to toughen up or get off Twitter if they don’t like the abuse: it’s misogyny and it has larger consequences. We expect women & girls to accept this cost of living in the public sphere; we’re appalled when it spills over.

Tech companies CONSISTENTLY IGNORE women and girls. "One girl, discussing moments when he had been creepy and threatening, said that was just “how online is.”" Before massacre, Uvalde gunman frequently threatened teen girls online texastribune.org/2022/05/28/uva via @TexasTribune

I have had an abortion. All that matters about it was that it allowed me to be free. It was a condition of my freedom. This is not just about girls’/women’s/ovary-having humans’ freedom to choose, but about our choices to be free. This is about our freedom, and those who hate it.

Another example of how social media and gendered aesthetic expectations are fueling the plastic surgery explosion. Straight, cis men are insecure about their gender presentation, too. Leading them to pursue gender-affirming surgery, too.
