Bush was good at some things, as a politician. So was Trump. McCain, HW Bush, & Romney were good at fewer things, especially Romney. Dole was terrible. We haven't had a national nominee who was really good at this across the board since Reagan.

Bush 41 was much better at being President and behind closed doors with people than he was on TV and other multimedia.

Bush 41 was simply very good as a chief executive managing difficult, complex issues in foreign policy. His approach wasn't good enough for internal affairs and he lacked "it" on TV, as you say.

Senator and President are two different jobs with different responsibilities, and that's to say nothing of the issues being a Presidential candidate present to anyone.

Sure, but my point was that Dole was not devoid of political talent. He was just more adept at maneuvering on the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue.
