Our research team from (me, , and ) just finished expository papers on Nil & Sol geometry. I'll post the Arxiv links soon, but first will take you on a tour of the illustrations. Here's a view of the earth rotating in Nil geometry.

You can deform the geometry of the space while you're inside of it - this is moving along a line of almost zero-volume incomplete hyperbolic structures.

Here’s a demonstration of how my minimap works in the euclidean and hyperbolic planes. There are two tessellations here: the red tessellation represents the actual game world, and the blue tessellation represents the perceived game world.

Here’s a view from inside the resulting manifold, where we are rendering the edges of the fundamental domain by raytracing along geodesics: this is what we would actually see if we were placed inside the identified cube given the Sol metric

A photography technique I invented: take a series of time lapse photos, colour each one with a different hue using colours from the spectrum of light, then recombine them. The colour of each pixel depends on how its brightness changed over time.

I will always remember what my prof said in grad school: the earth spins counterclockwise by definition. Because the sun dial was invented in the northern hemisphere, which means that looking down from the North Pole, the earth rotates counter

This is the only interesting bit of my PhD thesis. (Robert was my supervisor and had the model made, but I found the right parameter values for a system of this nature to have those dynamics.)

Robert MacKay's Chaos Machine. Its configuration space is a genus three surface. The dynamics of the machine are equivalent to geodesic flow on the surface, which is Anosov, hence chaotic.

Game of Life - The Glider This was so fun to make. I (re-)learned the rules of the game and gained lots of insight into how the glider functions. Very clever mathematics at play! . Math by Richard Guy Idea and advice by Cubing/stop-motion by me
