Christian Nationalists like Tony Perkins want to destroy the economy because they believe it’ll benefit them politically.

The leadership of Republicans in the U.S. House standing strong on debt ceiling negotiations is encouraging to Americans. Hold the line. The outcome will have a significant impact on the 2024 elections.

Anti-LGBTQ conservatives see reports of children being abused in the Catholic Church, the Southern Baptist Convention, the Boy Scouts of America, and by numerous GOP politicians, and they think: "You know what kids need protection from? Shirts with rainbows on them at Target."

Abuse is common in Christian conservative households. , you are failing your son.

Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert's son called 911 crying in December, saying say his dad was, "throwing him around." 9 minutes later, the boy made a second call. He says his dad *wasn't* physical. Boebert then gets on the call and tells the dispatcher her son, "doesn't need help."

Christian hate-preacher Duncan Urbanek says the Qur'an is the "worst literature" because it was put together by someone who couldn't "read or write." "It sounds like... a third grader put it together." Meanwhile, "everything just lines up perfectly" in the Bible.

“Many voters” is a hell of a substitute for lazy political journalists.
Quote Tweet
Many voters see the Democratic and Republican parties as equally extreme at this moment. Conversations with two lawmakers who have publicly clashed reveal how the parties regard, and exploit, the other side when it comes to questions of extremism. nyti.ms/43lF1fL

What if the driver is pregnant? Shouldn’t she have to wear a helmet to protect the preborn? Should she be allowed to even drive a motorcycle? Before issuing her a license shouldn’t she at least have to watch a movie of what a crash can do to a preborn? #NELeg

Another night session at the #NEleg, and now we're hearing an 11th hour attempt by Sen. Ben Hansen to do away with the state's motorcycle helmet law. 'What this is about is freedom,' said Sen. @Erdman4You Doctors say helmets help avoid brain injuries and promote safety.

Just the dumbest bill passed by the worst Republican lawmakers in the country.

#BREAKING Texas lawmakers have OK'd allowing unlicensed religious chaplains to work in mental health roles in schools, despite concerns the bill is a "Trojan horse" for evangelism & will worsen the state's mental health crisis. @TexasTribune #txlege texastribune.org/2023/05/24/tex

This video of a far-right provocateur haranguing a Target employee is from February, and was roundly criticized as weird and extreme behavior at the time. It's only three months later, and Target protests are being lionized by Fox News and GOP influencers as a culture war win.

The drag queen number is appalling!
Quote Tweet
1. These were the key numbers in the report against the Catholic Church in Illinois: - 451 credibly accused predators - 1,997 victims since 1950 - 100,000 pages of examined documents - 9,726 years' worth of "abuse opportunities” - 0 drag queens friendlyatheist.substack.com/p/the-damning-

If the anti-trans panic playbook sounds familiar — that's because it is. Here was the gameplan from the person who created the CRT panic. He laid this out months before that became a bothsides'd national conversation. They have just replaced CRT boycotts with trans boycotts.

Just amazing this is getting covered as “political back and forth”. One party is threatening to default if their massive, unpopular agenda isn’t immediately passed into law. One party doesn’t want to default and will raise the debt ceiling immediately and without condition.
Quote Tweet
It’s time for lawmakers to end the drama and come to terms and increase the debt limit. There has been little economic fallout from the political back and forth so far. But that is set to change quickly. twitter.com/cnnthismorning…

Frost: If we legislated using your logic, women and black folks wouldn’t have the right to vote because it would be unfair to those who never got to vote before them… why do you bring that bigoted logic to this issue as it relates to students but not any other issue

You voted against an assault weapons ban just 2 months after those 21 souls were taken. Preserving access to a weapon that has no value for self-defense or hunting - unless you’re hunting children - while writing op-eds is neither a commitment to solutions nor public safety.

4. The percentage of substantiated sex abusers in the Catholic Church in IL was 4.8% at its peak in 1988. But one diocese was much worse than the others. In the Diocese of Belleville, the number "remained above 8% from 1991 through 2011, and even exceeded 10% in 2011."

3. Because of the Church's lax policies (reassigning alleged abusers to different parishes, etc), the predators named in the report had a total of “9,726 years of abuse opportunities for child sex abusers.”
