The fact that there is no option for "actually it's a print magazine" is the LEAST of the problems here

Every time I learn more about the influencer economy I am mind-blown. You'd think I'd have learned by now.

I don't understand why you're upset. All of that seems entirely reasonable to ask someone who said "I plan to describe you in a news story". I'd probably ask that sort of stuff of you myself and I'm just some dude on the internet!
-
You think it's reasonable to tell them the monetary value to them of writing a story about them? It's reasonable for them to demand at least one insta/instastory per day? That they think they need to ask for permission to share a link to the story?
-
...yes? It's entirely possible that a company posting on social media about someone else's work could be considered republication, which requires rights in advance to avoid lawsuits about IP rights violation.
-
That's absolutely not remotely true
-
Have you actually *never* had to fill out a form giving someone republication or reprint rights to your work? *Never* had to deal with someone just taking your stuff and reprinting it without asking?
-
Reprinting isn't the same as linking or referencing. They're not asking for reprint permission, they're asking for link permission — which, under 1a and fair use, is not remotely required.
-
People can, have, and do sue over links to things, and "well the Fair Use Amendment Or Something" doesn't actually *stop* a lawsuit being filed. Or maybe they're just being polite and asking for permission to use your work, and here you are being Mad Online about it.

cool, whatever, have fun being the guy who really cares about defending stupid shit, I'm going to do other things now

And this is one of the reasons why... And btw, I totally agree... https://www.facebook.com/WhiteMooseCafe/posts/2048406742106598 …

They decided that “influencers” and “bloggers” would be vetted. I don’t blame them. This world has turned into a What can you do for me!? culture that doesn’t respect business. As a Personal Chef I’m frequently asked by wealthy people to cater for free. And it’s a no.

Oy. From a former travel PR flack, I will say that many of these responses are automated from the major hotel chains. If you aren't requesting a comp you should never have received this. If you emailed their press email and this is their response... well, yikes.

It sounds like whoever is in charge over there doesn't understand the difference between PR and news reporting.
-
In fairness, do you think a majority of the public recognizes a difference anymore?
