It's not, you realize Holy Mountain is just a straight up Mandaean gnostic metaphor once you look into Jodorowskys religious beliefs El Topo is much more subtle with the spiritual stuff

The Alchemist leads The Thief and the other thieves on the path of gnosis through different trials in the second half of the film At this point it kinda crosses over into Hermeticism but there's enough overlap between gnositicism and Hermeticism for it to be consistent
