The combination of sun cult symbolism is almost blatant in the Christian iconography, as the disc that signifies a halo behind the heads of Jesus and the saints.

It is popular opinion that Dec 25th is the birthday of Jesus Christ, and thus why we enjoy Christmas on that day, but it is simply the masterful weaving that the Holy Roman Catholic Church has made of old pagan traditions and new Christian ones.
