so genesis 5 is basically just a lineage that discusses how long people lived and who they begat. nothing really stood out to me here except this, which i looked into and found some interesting commentary on: (leaving the last line in this last pic in the interest of discussion)pic.twitter.com/khxdWaQnZB

if you're familiar with esoterica you most likely have read / heard of the book of enoch, which is obviously not in our bibles today (in ethiopian orthodoxy it is canonical though, just an interesting note).pic.twitter.com/KHzx9ZYKPT

so, i was thinking, whats the deal? kind of weird that the bible mentions nothing else about him but somehow he is obviously special or apart from the others in some way. thought this answer was interesting: ("preserves two alike" here refers to elias also who we havent met yet)pic.twitter.com/tr8D5CXPcn

genesis 6 is where the noahs ark story really begins. so, if youre familiar with the book of enoch and esoterica you may know about the nephilim. basically there are tales about low ranking angels seeing hot earth girls, coming to bang them, and creating hybrids.

genesis 6 begins this way. its kind of ambiguous on its face about what this refers to. of course ive heard that story before so I wanted to find out what this really means. I mean "sons of god" could mean a lot of things, and it says nephilim here. KJV says giants, just saying.pic.twitter.com/z0LYJ4dW7c

haydock says the descendents of seth (who "replaced" abel after he died) and enos (seths son) are what is meant here by "sons of god", as opposed to the offspring of cain who are "children of men". he basically shoots down the whole angels banging humans thing.pic.twitter.com/o7WJS0d4Wq

some conflicting answers on the verse that actually mentions the nephilim by name. haydock says: well, theyre giants, like Goliath. love augustines comment here that the divine purpose of giants was to show us that bodily magnitude is just like physical beauty (ie of low value)pic.twitter.com/jjC4CAWbvl

BUT ambrose of milan says that the nephilim were products of angels and earth women, and seems to think they're different than the giants who were also on the earth at this time. so maybe there is some ambiguity here, unless someone knows an official answer: step forth if u dopic.twitter.com/GWKube7XDT

moving on, i really like the idea that noah was kind of "extra special" for being virtuous while surrounded by unvirtuous people. think we've all been surrounded by unvirtuous people, kind of a universal human thing rn unfortunately.pic.twitter.com/ngZQPBGExE

I find a large amount of parallels between the antediluvian earth and our current status. Even god’s promise has been coopted by his enemies. It feels time for another flood.
