The Government's plans are about taking power away from individuals, undermining the rule of law and attempting to silence opposition. Liberal Democrats will fiercely oppose these plans. - on the Queen's Speech ⬇️

"If the government is to raise the welfare bar here, it must do so for food imports. It would simply be hypocritical to do otherwise." and respond to the Action Plan for Animal Welfare 👉

We protect free speech by punishing academics who speak freely and restricting the right to protest. We protect our constitution by preventing the courts intervening when the government breaks the law. We promote law and order by bringing criminal justice to a grinding halt.

The Speech is not drafted by The Queen, but by the Government, outlining policies and proposed future legislation.

Not only is voter fraud very rare, but voter ID checks could disproportionately impact ethnic minorities, people on lower incomes & older people, while at the same time undermining the integrity of our electoral system & weakening our ability to hold the Government to account.

It was clear at the time that action was needed, but once again the government only did it weeks after it was required. They consistently fail to keep us safe.

  12. BREAKING: the PM has just told me, he will start an independent inquiry into the Government’s handling of Covid, in this parliamentary session - ie in the next 12 months. We’ll hold him to account on behalf of our country’s bereaved families - so they can get answers & justice.

Quite the Queen's Speech Making it possible for the Prime minister to control when a general election takes place, making it harder for people to vote, making it harder to challenge government decisions, and making it harder for anyone to protest about any of this

Unfortunately this ⬇️ is the case in many parts of Shropshire. That’s why brought forwards their “Putting Pedestrians First” motion in Feb - and the council supported. The new administration needs to make this a priority in all planning, and in particular LTP4.

  15. MPs seem to frequently have questionable interests that run counter to the public interest. The regulatory powers are toothless and standards to which MPs are measured seem flexible. None of which helps the reputation of politicians generally

ID cards, Covid passports, photo ID at polling stations... in the words of Clarence Harry Willcock ‘I am a Liberal and I am against this sort of thing...’ Mr Johnson and co talk the talk when it comes to British liberties, but here’s where their authoritarianism is unmasked.

. in North Shropshire did cracking job & so nearly got seats to go with doubling our total votes, getting nearly 20% of votes in constituency. 96 extra votes would have netted 3 seats, 150 would have netted 4 seats, 240 - 5 seats & 362 - 6 seats. Just 1% more for 6 seats
