In a completely unpredictable turn of events, COVID testing at my school was cancelled today when the COVID testing providers tested positive for COVID.

A big problem with the school reopening debate is that there is no democracy in our school system- parents in NYC have no voice, and the UFT works for the mayors office. So instead of hearing from the people affected the whole debate is driven by what journalists want.

  10. I'm a swaggering eagle with less than 60% attendance, a dozen teachers out, and the furnace in our school broke so we are all sitting in the classroom this morning w/o heat, windows open, on the coldest day of the year. 🦅

Let's not forget Michael Mulgrew's failed class bill. In order to get reasonable class sizes for public schools in New York City, we need it in our contract. is fighting for just that.

. could make schools safer tomorrow by providing and requiring high quality masks for all kids. But instead most students are still wearing cloth masks- even though all research says these are less effective at protecting against omicron. Why?

Heart is breaking listening to our school's parents terrified to send their children in. They are desperate for remote options. Kids are sick. Families are sick. More than we know. We can't staff our school. continue to say everything is fine. We're not OK.

Thanks for the offer ! As retirees we don’t have to go into unsafe buildings with inadequate safety protocols, insufficient tests, no social distancing. But our former colleagues did, we’ve been worried all day.

How much learning loss will there be when every kid gets Covid? For all the kids whose families are scared to send them in? And when kids get and miss weeks or months of school? don’t actually care about learning. They just want a political win.

Hey : What about the “learning loss” for the thousands of kids staying home this week because they are sick or their families don’t trust BS safety measures to send them in? Or the kids who spent the day in the auditorium because of staff home sick?

Today threatened NYC educators with corporate educrat speak, the language of institutional racism. SMH In my 20 yrs as a special educator, I've learned "we don't fight fire with fire, we fight fire with solidarity". Let's rise up
