I mean, there are some countries like Poland and South Korea that are building more coal plants (though South Korea has nominally committed to phase out nuclear as well, at least back in 2017...)

I have long criticized Energiewende for this but soon realized that, at the time, without their original position post Chernobyl to target nuclear, they would not have the political momentum to make the change. Germany's subsidies likely made a big impact on driving renewable prices down. But if they had closed all their coal plants (instead of all their nuclear ones) they would have had much more dramatic CO2 reductions, as in the UK.pic.twitter.com/2R6XOs0oHD

True, it was mostly replaced by natural gas. Not much reason to build new coal if natural gas is cheaper, as in the US.
