Vitalik calls Ethereum's 70% premine "small" and is "really proud" of ithttps://twitter.com/VitalikButerin/status/1048076278044057601 …

I personally am really proud to have helped set the precedent of small premines being legitimate. It's an appalling idea that people operating boxes burning huge piles of electricity are somehow the only ones who should be allowed to gain from crypto seignorage revenue.

After having a reasonably balanced discussion about this in another thread, it's sad to see you resort to this kind of low effort signaling.

I called Vitalik a liar in the other thread, why is this tweet worse to you?

His definition of a premine is the part that excludes the public presale. Yours isn't. You're clearly hooking into that difference in interpretation to get cheap likes from your "premine = bad" axiomatic thinking followers.https://twitter.com/antiprosynth/status/1048163926863695872 …

They were both born in a different time, and got the advantages and disadvantages that come with that difference. I fail to see the relevance of defending Bitcoin's distribution or condemning Ethereum's distribution because they operated from different points in history.

You make it sound like both definitions are equally viable, but you cannot define the premine to exclude the public presale. There is little difference between creating 100 tokens and selling 80 of them right away (ETH) and selling 80 of them over a few years (e.g. XRP).

Again I want to point out that I'm not against premines per se. I think they have many problems, but they are not inherently fraudulent if they are conducted in a free market between consenting adults. I only dislike Vitalik's attempt at rewriting the definition of a premine.

By my definition, Ethereum didn't have a premine even. To me, premine implies that supply was mined secretly before the general public had a chance. Ethereum's initial distribution was completely transparent and open to the general public.

I hear you, but that's not the common definition. Since you mention transparency a lot, did you read my piece on the presale? What do you respond to the problem that insiders were able to buy ETH from themselves for free?
