This is THE question for #86th. #txlege is already posturing to use #STAAR to drive school finance. - They would require students to preform above what the state requires of them. - Their tests are already over-burdensome & high-stakes. - Tests were not designed to drive funding.https://twitter.com/mishshel/status/1058737246201962501 …

Texas students aren't "trapped in failing schools." They're trapped within a system that has underfunded schools and undervalued educators. So the question is this: will the 2019 #txlege session be different? #txed pic.twitter.com/bJyKv0LuvJ

Coincidentally, that is where a huge portion of the school funding is going. Reformers depend on #STAAR to justify their existence.

Clearly a scheme to reward wealthier districts. Like all standardized tests, I’m sure STARR results closely parallel socioeconomic status

Yes #STAAR correlates to socio-economics. Wealthier schools will end up with more money. They want to give more to schools (after students test) when students pass above state requirements. Their system is based on giving schools a carrot but growing it in concrete not soil.

Those are the same red flags I see. This would be the most radical and widespread abuse of the assessment program to date - and I’m one who does NOT object to assessments when the results are specifically intended to inform instruction.
