I learnt Haskell through your book. (I know, I've told you a hundred times...) Best book. I'm curious though why you only introduce type definitions in Ch 8 of the book? Have you ever tried teaching data types as the very first thing?

Most of the basic concepts are linked to each other, so a key decision when teaching is how the order things. My approach is to start with the simplest things first and build up from there. But there's lots of other possible approaches. There's many ways to skin a cat :-)
