    I share blood with this man(my uncle) but he is not family. Family is important but not as important as fighting to overcome racism/white privilege and advocating for social justice.

    i’m a jew & despite virulent american anti-semitism at the time, my grandparents and parents got bank loans to start businesses and mortgage loans to buy houses denied to most black families in a process called redlining. my life has been easier bc of it.

    I’m a Jew. My family were murdered because they weren’t white. They were Jews. My history isn’t white history. My history is the history of Jews. My ancestors were told where they can live, what they can do. Because they weren’t white. They were Jews. A civilisation of their own.

    My nearly 17 year old white son runs miles every day. No one has ever blocked his path and asked if he’s just robbed a store. Thanks to you and your son for sharing your story.

    This is a painful conversation. But it’s a reminder that those closest to the pain should be centered and lead on the strategies for change.
