  2. cracking work party MOORS thanks all 18 vols. A few off sick &holidays 🍰. Cleared channel in front of west hide cuting reeds& willows finished off scrubby area with a bit of structural diversity.. blackthorn trunks cut from ground level varying thru to 4 feet tall

    The 6 Egyptian Geese at Moors Pool. Also 10 Pochard, 6 Shelduck, 22 Shoveler, 8 Gadwall, 36 Teal, 34 Tufted Duck, 3 Little Grebe, GC Grebe, 2 Mute Swan, 32 Snipe, 50 Lapwing, Little Egret, Stonechat, Nuthatch, 2 Cetti's, 5 Thrush species.

    This evening at FLASHES . A lot of waterfowl arrived at dark geese to roost & duck to feed. Greylag 30. Canadas 80.Mute swan 2. Teal 10. Mallard 40. Tufted 30. Coot 14. Curlew 11. Lap 8. Snipe7. Jack snipe. BHG 1100. Comm gull. LBBG. Barn owl 5pm. Stonechat fem.

    Thanks to all 27 of the crew today MOORS the leggy overgrown blackthorn thicket between 2 west hides was heavily pruned and brash piled up on west border, completing next week. Also cut back willows along west ridge, pruned NE corner blackthorn hedge at North Moors.

    Action at MOORS . Swan Fight still going on 10 minutes later. GCG. Little grebe 3. Shelduck 9. Shoveler 22. Gadwall 4. Teal 30+. Tufted 40. Jack snipe. Snipe 2 plus another 50 flushed from the lagoon spit when the fighting swans moved on to land . 😱

    The first Oystercatcher of the year at Flashes this morning. Also Jack Snipe, 11 Curlew, 3 Snipe, 16 Lapwing, 9 Shelduck, 24 Teal.

    At the west track MOORS we laid a small section of 'tired' hawthorn hedge that is slowly collapsing. This will rejuvenate it and increase its longevity. Video at beginning of work.

    This is the view from the southern end of the channel looking north Moors . To the right of the track is the extensive north reed bed. Here several water rail & Cetti's warbler called. It might be worth checking along the channel before you walk through the west gate

    Some poor film of the Bewicks Swan at Flashes for about 15 minutes this morning.

    Amy's Marsh and the Broadmeadow Pool at Moors Pool completely frozen over. 2 Wigeon(m&f), Shelduck, 2 Water Rail calling, Cetti's and at least 2000 Starlings from the North Moors roost highlights so far.

    Our colleague Eleanor caught this at The Moors : "I could almost feel them as they swirled round & when they descended into the reedbed; so joyous!" ☺️ Visits: free for members with card or buy £3 permit from volunteers
