Please either: a.) do a deep dive on what caused this gun to magically fire all by itself; or b.) report what actually happened Guns don’t “go off.” People fire them.

You establish she’s the one loading the gun - so why does this shooter get treated to this language making it sound like an equipment malfunction?

One person shoots and kills another person, lies about it, and still gets treated to the mysterious “the gun went off” style of reporting? Guns don’t “go off” - people fire them. Please report on shootings accurately.

Guns do not “accidentally discharge.” People fire them. Please don’t let shooters off the hook by reporting on their negligent behavior as if it were some kind of equipment malfunction.

RT Well_Regulated_ "AshburnPatch So weird that this self-firing gun “accidentally discharged” at the exact same moment the guy was rummaging around in the backpack! Unless maybe - and just hear me out - the guy fired the gun? mark… "

Perhaps a new record! Not once, not twice, not thrice, but FOUR TIMES in this story is this gunman excused for his actions, by your description of him firing a gun (and shooting his neighbor) as an equipment malfunction of the gun itself.

“A weapon in his possession accidentally went off” is an odd way of saying “he shot himself.” These linguistic gymnastics have to be harder than just plainly stating what happened. Please, do yourselves and your readers a favor and just report shootings accurately!

Guns do not “go off.” People fire them. This guy’s handling a loaded gun while drunk at a hotel at 11:00 on a Sunday morning, fires it - and he still gets treated to this headline?

I was glad to see the local police describe this gunman’s negligence accurately, so why does the article report that the gun mysteriously “went off?” Guns don’t “go off” - people fire them, either intentionally or negligently.

RT Well_Regulated_ "KMOV You get it right in the first paragraph, but by the second you’re reporting it almost like an equipment malfunction or a self-firing gun. "

Recklessness/carelessness with a firearm is inexcusable. Period. But even more so in the law enforcement community. This agent should be disciplined harshly. FBI agent's gun accidentally discharges in nightclub

The excuse being played in case is analogous to me saying, "My car ran Francisco over." Cars don't kill people.
