Liberal Democrats support making the Universal Credit uplift permanent. But we need to go further. That’s why I have tabled an amendment to extend the uplift to carers and all those claiming legacy benefits. If selected, I hope all parties will support.

Whilst I wholeheartedly support the party's
#StandupforCarers campaign it only speaks to one of these aspects. /3Show this thread -
Today I’m launching the next stage of our
#StandUpForCarers campaign: Give Carers a Break. Most carers are exhausted. Many haven't been able to take time off since the pandemic hit. Back our campaign for emergency funding to give unpaid carers a break

900,000 full-time unpaid carers rely on Carer’s Allowance, but at just £67 a week, it’s not enough. We've launched our campaign
#StandUpForCarers. Our first demand - an urgent increase in Carer's Allowance by £1,000 a year Back our campaign below

Once, when asked what I do, I said, "Carer." "Oh, you don't work then," came the reply. And they say ignorance is bliss.

There are plenty of other issues on which the Lib Dems have policies. See
#StandUpForCarers for example. -
Emma Clifford's powerful and moving speech at
@UKLabour conference 2013 asking for support for carers . Important then, desperately urgent now#standupforcarers https://youtu.be/HSAXDA1Io8c -
Liberal Democrats are fighting to
#StandUpForCarers and lead the way to a more caring society as we emerge from this pandemic. This starts by raising Carer's Allowance for unpaid carers by £1,000 a year. Back our campaign & show your support.

It's only thanks to the nine million unpaid carers who tirelessly pick up the slack left by the Government, that many of the most vulnerable are getting appropriate care. Back our campaign to

If elected, I'll take each and every one of my fellow unpaid carers into the chamber with me, every moment of every day for the entirety of my time in office - It's time parliament did right by each and every one of them! |

Totally support this, really pleased that Powys is committed to care. Next step is to get the letter off to the Chancellor of the Exchequer to uplift Carers Allowance. They deserve support too.
