Here There be Monsters by Meljean Brook. It's one of the best examples for me of world building, fantasy, and romance in a novella. Stands alone or works as an intro to the Iron Seas series.

Tikka Chance on Me was just a lovely read.

Who knew today's
#readrchat was going to involve so many good food metaphors!? Now I'm hungry... https://twitter.com/Kaetrin67/status/1223734932641443840 … -
A6/Mentioned this in an earlier answer, but as long as the connection btwn the MCs is established early & strongly & well-maintained, I’ll forgive almost anything in a short/novella.

A10/Hmmm. Sooo many to choose from! How about The Governess Affair by Courtney Milan or A Valentine Bride by Teresa DesJardien? And if you want one that is really wild and a horror romance to both (TW: dubcon), check out Strangeways by Addison Cain

A10: Declaration of Courtship by Nalini Singh. It shows the beauty of Singh's writing and could be read as a standalone without having read the other books in the series. And it has the most beautiful story of a dominant wolf and submissive in the most dynamic way

Suleikha writes the best novellas!!, I also loved spice and secrets by her (it's a second chance romance)

A3/Shorts & novellas are great for getting out of reading slumps or simply trying something new whether it’s a new author or a new subgenre

Yes! Key for any romance.

A2/That it still has a beginning, a middle, and an end. That I’m invested in the characters and want to see more of them without feeling like I’m missing a piece of the story.

Ha! Just one? That is way to hard. There are too many to choose from. I'd need to give you a dozen. Check my Goodreads. Read one of mine. I suck at choosing.

Thank you all for joining us today and sharing your thoughts about all things shorts/novellas! Our next
#readRchat will be 7 March at 10 PM CET/4 PM EST. -
A6/ Character development. I need to understand their motivations, to "buy" their connection. Which is not always easy in a short form.

A4. Friends to lovers, second chance. Forced proximity, siblings best friend - basically any trope where the MCs already know each other so more focus is spent resolving conflict to make their romance believable

when I read a book I want the sex scenes to be explicit but in a novella I don't mind if there's not sex scenes, for me they're a comfort read so I expect them to be fluffy and cute

A5: Yes! Holiday stories are great for novellas, let’s see more than just Christmas.
#readrchat -
A2. There needs to be a full, convincing love story. It works best with people who know each other or something along the lines of fated mates. The conflict also needs to be tight, nothing that requires a lot of work.

q4: friends to lovers. traveling/forced proximity

THISSSSS. Give me all the holidays.
