    I think one of the most important things that could have ever happened in publishing was . We’re still witnessing a shift in culture that was kickstarted by a newfound transparency around wage disparity (and the expectation of overwork for minimal compensation).

    All love to for and the discussion and the transparency it provided. As a result my contract has been changed to better reflect the worth of the work. Big love to all the writers who were vulnerable and transparent in that moment.

  7. Successfully selling a book doesn’t often lead to financial security & the publishing industry hasn’t been known for its transparency on these subjects . 6 writers talk about how they make writing work financially.

    On the NYTs piece on ...As soon as Trump’s out of office, white publishing is going to award mega book contracts to members of his entire administration to write about how hard it was to work for a violent white nationalist government. The End

  11. anyway, going back to (which yt publishing ppl seem to have skated past all too quickly...) BIPOC creators, esp Black authors, should be compensated for the emotional labor of just existing in this industry, which means being paid MORE than white counterparts

    I get sent a lot of junk, but this by The Knowledge Foundation enraged me. Once more it implies authors are rich. That's a lie. The scandal is the poverty rates *most* working writers earn for their work.

    If libraries can only afford to purchase best sellers, diverse authors will continue to lose out. As publishing companies increase the cost of digital materials for libraries, the library's commitment to building diverse collections is in crisis.

    If you think this then you really learned nothing at all from . Any white person regardless of your marginalization will likely get an advance with an entire extra digit or two over BIPOC authors. That's not an opportunity - its exploitation.

    2022 is approaching soon. And all I can think about is the stuff that has rocked the publishing industry in 2020 & 2021. From books like American D**t to & the pledge from publishers to invest in Black & Latinx writers + book workers.
