Our own black hole! Astronomers have just revealed the 1st image of the supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy using the

We finally have the first look at our
#MilkyWay’s black hole, Sagittarius A*! NSF is proud to be an international partner that invests in this innovative research and the infrastructure that makes such fantastic discoveries possible. https://bit.ly/38rC85z#Ourblackhole pic.twitter.com/FGWsYpI8x3

The image shows a bright ring around a spot of darkness, a spot we have come to understand as a shadow of a black hole, the direct visual evidence of the black hole's existence. https://bit.ly/3sv0OAS

Sagittarius A*, or Sgr A*, was imaged through a global effort. Scientists at the
@CenterForAstro were key players in capturing our galaxy’s black hole!#OurBlackHole pic.twitter.com/26nq4yM5pKUnveiling Our Galaxy's Black HoleOn Thursday, May 12, 2022, the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration, including scientists at the CfA, released the first-ever image of the black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy. -
Scientists had previously seen stars orbiting around something invisible, compact & very massive at the centre of the #MilkyWay. This suggested that this object is a black hole & today’s image provides the first direct visual evidence of it. Say hello to#OurBlackHole

It's here: the first image of the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way
This is the first image of Sagittarius A* (or Sgr A* for short), making it the first direct visual evidence of the presence of this black hole. #OurBlackHole! Credit:#EHT Collaborationpic.twitter.com/HIaYiW1Fui

Curious about
#OurBlackHole? Get the scoop on our galactic neighbor and the team that made this image possible! Sgr A* sits at the center of the Milky Way—that's our galaxy—about 27,000 light years from Earth. Credit: B. Saxton (NRAO/AUI/NSF) pic.twitter.com/zaOGxwRJb6

Yes! It is a supermassive black hole! Today we published the 1st image of the dark heart of our Milky Way. We see the shadow of the even horizon, where light disappears. A dream has come true!

People have been imagining what
#blackholes look like since they were predicted by Einstein more than a century ago. We don’t have to imagine anymore! Watch

Excited about today's
@ehtelescope announcement on#ourblackhole? You can now listen to the data! This is a sonification — translation into sound — of the image of the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way, Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*), w/@system_soundspic.twitter.com/RGaOzqAAbtShow this thread -
Yesterday, the
@ehtelescope revealed the first image of#OurBlackHole at the center of the Milky Way! SOFIA has studied this region, too! The magnetic fields measured by SOFIA may help prevent matter from slamming into the black hole, explaining why it is relatively quiet. pic.twitter.com/M9WXhei0Ec

[2/8] We can’t see the #SgrABlackHole
itself, instead we see a bright ring of light around a dark central shadow. #OurBlackHole is 27,000 light years away from Earth, so in the sky it is about the same size as a donut on the Moon would be. pic.twitter.com/PxyYJYj0Jv

[3/8] Astronomers had already observed stars orbiting around the compact, massive, ‘invisible’ SgrA*
