    B. 1793, John Rankin, American Presbyterian Minister and abolitionist. His writings, especially “Letters on Slavery”, were influential in the anti-slavery movement & he was active in the “Underground Railroad”, helping escaped slaves on their journey to freedom in Canada.

  19. Physicist Robert Hofstadter was born in 1915 and 46 years later would win the 1961 Nobel Prize in Physics (along with Rudolf Mössbauer) for studies in electron scattering in atomic nuclei. To honor him and his work is why we have a Hofstadter Rd. here at Jefferson Lab.
