    A couple of photos of the plates from last Friday. I just love the stereom microstructure.

    An ophiuroid vertebra (the core of the arm).  This element is two fused plates.  You can see the suture along the midline.
    An ophiuroid spine.  All echinoderm plates are single crystals of Mg-Calcite regardless of the microstructure.
