Here we have the gorgeous takahē, one of New Zealand’s rarest birds. There’s only about 400 of these flightless guys left in the whole world and they were thought extinct until 1948. The island we visited today had five of these beauts!

We’re engaging our clever kākāpō patients, like Esperance-2-B-19 here, with target training! This kind of training uses positive reinforcement to ask for a behaviour – in this case following the target stick – to get a reward, like delicious almond pieces.
