    These four lines are a cipher written by a nun in the 8th century, using abbreviations for the numbers 1 to 5 instead of the 5 vowels. It reads: 'I, an ordained Saxon woman named Hugeburc, wrote this.' See the full manuscript here:

    This tapestry, woven by the nuns of St Katherine's Convent in Nuremberg in 1456, depicts scenes from the life of St Walburga. It commemorates a moment of reform in the life of the community. Now Domschatz- und Diözesanmuseum Eichstätt.

    The exhibition also includes a chasuble embroidered by Sr Josephine of Lanherne Carmel c.1900, pictured between the two Antwerp vestments. The panels here depict St Teresa of Avila and St Simon Stock.
