Thank you NBC for discussing the mascot fiasco. It’s one thing to nearly annihilate an entire race of people. It’s another to then turn them into a distorted, caricaturized prop for your zero-sum, beer soaked paradigm.

  3. It's unacceptable that this racism will be on full display at , and that some dare to say it's in the name of "honoring" Indigenous people.

Native Americans push to have our truth told, just as we fight for our children, our health care, education, tribal sovereignty, land rights, and environmental and cultural protection. We are not mascots. My piece in .

We are not mascots. We take stands against environmental destruction. We fight for our kids to stay within tribal communities. We push states & the feds to take violence against Native women seriously. Despite genocide, we are still here.

  6. Listening to justified anger from the oppressed even when it triggers some fragility in yourself is just as important as the vote you cast. Sit with that discomfort, it’s growth.

Racism on display at the Super Bowl. “Imagine if fans supported their team while in blackface, Echo Hawk pointed out. There would be outrage. Yet many look past redface or the wearing of headdresses.”

Any of y’all hear of Selena Not Afraid? ? How bout the war on ICWA, the law that keeps our kids in their culture? Or destruction of our sacred places by Line 3, KXL, Rio Tinto? This isn’t honor, this is grotesque erasure. For fun. And profit.

Research has proven that race-based mascots harm children. PROVEN. It's called science. It doesn't matter who is cool with harming kids. It's still harm. If you're OK with hurting children of color you need to check your .

It makes me livid. I can’t. It’s 2020. I’m trying to imagine this being permissible for any other ethnicity, culture or race. I can’t. Because it’s not. It wouldn’t be. But for Indigenous people, we continue to be ok with going there. It’s shameful.

  15. This is a very good article on why Native American mascots are offensive to many Native Americans

Many of us will watch some (or all) of the game tonight - BUT for the life of me, I will never understand how this type of “red face” nonsense is tolerated in today’s society. Can you imagine any other scenario?
