This decade I have created an amazing urban preserve. He let me get 1 foot out the door later in the day. I said to my husband this morning I could hear a different bird song! Funny how he is frequently interacting/squabbling with the blue jays.

back today,I hadn’t seen him while branches were snow covered. 3rd pic through steamy screen door, but he likes my antler 😉. 4th shot shows my view from kitchen, can you find him hunting over our back steps 😂 Scares easily but returns shortly after.

Found a Northern Shrike’s snack cache out at Vinemount Meadows while retrieving a field recorder for couple weekends ago. They impale their prey — this is the first prey I’ve found like this. – mjesto: Dofasco Trail @ Tenth Rd

  13. Some scientists think the dark feathers masking the eyes of this help disguise where the bird is looking, helping to catch prey off guard.

  14. Many birds – like this – have evolved dark feathers across their eyes, which may help reduce glare from the sun.
