  8. Although the urban impact has been miraculously minimal, make no mistake: the recovery of NP will take many, many years. There will be an immediate impact on water supply, recreational facilities, European and indigenous heritage sites... contd

  9. Hearing extremely disturbing reports of the extent of destruction in the forests of NP. When a seasoned veteran says “this is 2003 on steroids”, you know it’s bad. Brace yourself for what we will see once the smoke clears.

    Wasn’t it the case that the 2003 bushfires, which cost Canberrans 4 lives, 400 injured and 500 homes burned, was the ONLY such natural disaster that did NOT spark a national fundraiser for victims?

    The immediate danger might have passed, but the glow of Namadgi still burning is a sobering sight after dark in Tuggeranong. 😐
