Maine is our home. Tomorrow we rise before the dawn — like the mist over the Sandy River — and seek adventure, with hope in our hearts and love in our souls for the brand new day. To all of you, and to the people of Maine, I say, welcome home. Thank you.

Women now head all three branches of Maine state government.

  6. I’ve signed off on the CD2 election result as it’s no longer in federal court. Ranked Choice Voting didn’t result in a true majority as promised-simply a plurality measured differently. It didn’t keep big money out of politics & didn’t result in a more civil election

  8. . proclaims governor. (Reading things in a patented dramatic/cornball patter is his greatest skill and he lives for it.)

  9. Not only are the Governor’s comments wrong, this is yet another attempt by the Maine GOP to undermine the will of Mainers, who twice voted to approve RCV. Maine people are tired of this kind of poor leadership — which is why they voted for sweeping change in November.

In my role as former Governor, I will continue to work to put the Maine people first, to help them prosper and to ensure that the gains we made in my Administration are not lost. Repealing ranked choice voting will be a focus of my efforts; it's bad policy.

Climate change is threatening our jobs, damaging our health and attacking our historic relationship to the land and sea. Tonight I say, enough. Enough with studies, talk, and debate. It is time to act!

In sad memory of the 418 Maine people who lost their lives to drug overdose in 2017, our Administration will create a Director of Opiate Response, a person who will marshal the collective power and resources of state government to stem the tide of this epidemic.

Ann and I wish Governor-elect much success as Governor. If she succeeds, our state will succeed. I believe good public policy is good politics, and I hope the 129th Legislature will put good policy forward. As I have said, I will be watching.
