    The Peutinger Table, a 5th century road map (cursus publicus) of the , made in the 13th c., is 22 feet long and 1 foot high. Here is a detail from an 1887 reduction by Konrad Miller (15 ft x 8.5 in), which confirms that all roads lead to Rome!

    A truly composite map of heaven & earth as someone took the trouble to paste together 3 plates from a late 18th century German portable atlas. Note helpful diagram in the upper left corner on using the Big Dipper (Heerwagen) to find the Pole Star.

    These tumultuous days are sending me back to old habits: I like to look at old to keep my sense of perspective. Things fall apart, empires come and go. This is from the 1930s or so - where much of the world was ruled by the British, French, and German empires
