    I saw two great-crested grebes on the Thames during my patch walk this morning, this is one of them. Beautiful birds! One of them called, I don’t think I’d ever heard one call before, quite a surprise!

    1st-summer Caspian Gull at Erith Pier from Sunday. Just the structure and tertials to go on, given the state of wear - cheers to the usual lads for giving me the faith. The 32nd of the season in SE London for me, and likely the last one before the new breed arrive.

    adult Yellow-legged Gull at Erith Pier, London this morning. This bird, affectionately known as 'gammy' with its injured right leg, has returned for the summer season - it doesn't get better looking with age! One of three YLGs there today.

    today: Some birds not entirely expected in London in mid-summer. 3cy Mediterranean Gull in the BHG colony on East Warwick raft, Scaup also on East Warwick and the long-staying Barnacle Goose on res no.5.
