I saw two great-crested grebes on the Thames during my patch walk this morning, this is one of them. Beautiful birds! One of them called, I don’t think I’d ever heard one call before, quite a surprise!

1st-summer Caspian Gull at Erith Pier from Sunday. Just the structure and tertials to go on, given the state of wear - cheers to the usual lads for giving me the faith. The 32nd of the season in SE London for me, and likely the last one before the new breed arrive.

adult Yellow-legged Gull at Erith Pier, London this morning. This bird, affectionately known as 'gammy' with its injured right leg, has returned for the summer season - it doesn't get better looking with age! One of three YLGs there today.

I was looking up for swifts. But what do I see flying high up a buzzard. Sorry about the photo, as I forgot to clean the lens. Seen at Wembley, NW London.

2nd-summer Yellow-legged Gull at Greenland Pier, Rotherhithe y'day. Getting to that time of year where the species is a regular sight by my flat here in Central London - one of the very few birding benefits of living here.
