#lichenchallenge#lichen@obfuscans3@BLSlichens Couldn’t find any hearts, but here’s a nicely lichened concrete fence post. Could the white-edged one with dark red apothecia be Lecanora campestris?pic.twitter.com/QpfaTAh5PR

Delighted to be showing my lichen cyanotype prints in the Small is Beautiful exhibition. Fantastic work by the lichenologists and artist team at Edinburgh Botanic Garden.

Our old
#orchard trees, planted 20 years ago to conserve heritage fruit varieties, are now covered in different species of#lichen. Planting these trees has had such an impact on the diversity of the pasture - supporting a host of birds & insects who also spread wildflower seeds pic.twitter.com/NG7Q3KfvsY

Tiny shelf fungi surrounded by lichens on sumac. I've no idea regarding species. I just find tiny landscapes interesting.

“One could speculate that lichens would be among the last inhabitants to succumb on a dying earth at some distant point in the future.” ― Steven L. Stephenson, The Kingdom Fungi: The Biology of Mushrooms, Molds, and Lichens

The podetia (hollow stalk) and apothecia (spore producing layer) of Brown-beret
#Lichen (Baeomyces rufus) look much like the fruiting body (mushroom) of fungi. Major difference the two: these lichen grow many times on just rock. pic.twitter.com/HGT5YubgLi

Cowpie
#Lichen (Diploschistes muscorum) not only looks like a cowpie, but it is similarly distributed as cattle over the entire U.S. and Canada (Brodo & Sharnoff 2001)! Ecology different though, it is a parasite (on other soil-based lichen) vs. a herbivore (cow). pic.twitter.com/yrWXH0FEYq
