    For (UK) LGBT History Month I'm highlighting the "L" with a every day of Feb. Day 3: French painter Marie Laurencin (1883-1956), lover of men and women but expressed in her life and art her self-declared "préférence pour les femmes"

    February is LGBT History Month and here it's all about the L with a different each day of the month. Day 1: Swiss artist Louise Breslau (1856-1927) who painted her lifelong love Madeleine Zillhardt in "La Toilette" in 1898.

    Damer was unhappily married from 1767 until her husband's suicide in 1776. She was a whose most passionate relationship was with writer Mary Berry (1763-1852). A satirist c1770 described her Strawberry Hill house as a salon of "Taste, elegance, and Sapphic love".

    Louise Abbéma was a and painted women with passion. These portraits are of actress and model Jeanne Samary (1879) and actress Sarah Bernhardt (1875). Abbéma's close lifelong relationship with Bernhardt began in 1873: the two were almost certainly lovers.

    French artist, photographer and writer Claude Cahun (Lucy Schwob) was born 1894 (d1955). Her extraordinary imagery explored the ambiguities of sexuality, selfhood and identity. She was a whose life partner was artist Marcel Moore (Suzanne Malherbe).
