    I think the only answer to that is "define significant influence". I think if we accept books as a whole are really important we shouldn't try to narrow it down any further - that's both unnecessary & runs a risk of exclusion

    A7: have to trust the impact you hope will be made over time. Putting out the best work is the mission... never control how it is received by external audience.

    how do you prepare and plan a MS? Do you outline and structure the story first or do you just write?

    A1 in so many ways. I was very lucky to grow up in a book house & spend ages in bookshops as a kid but it was getting given the book of Cosmos for Christmas when I was 8 that really changed my life

  7. My debut novel is on NetGalley. I'm 54. Never say never. -4th most requested New Adult book -10th most reader recommended Lit Fiction -11th most reader recommended Women's Fiction And it's only been up since 7/7.

    I think more people believe they can do something valuable, which is great. I also think platforms like Wattpad that have such huge followings & communities around them can be a massive force for social cohesion & people find belonging

    A4. Keeping my personal opinions to myself at the moment, I've never felt a book should be banned. Gate-kept? Maybe, depending on the book & prospective reader. But banned? Never.

    A6. Yes? Some reflects society as it is/was when written, others MAY influence it.

    A6: I'm glad Tim agrees. I think it's both. It makes me think of how Hunger Games perfectly reflects that period in time. We had reality TV shows & war footage playing interchangeably, and a lot of youth dying.

    But I think you've pout your finger on something vital - in general books that influence society aren't the kind people want banned, it's books they think are likely to trigger dangerous behaviour in individuals reading them

    I think if I were in favour of banning books (& it seems to be the case for those who are) it would be because of their negative impact on particular groups of individuals not their wider impact on society
