Another reminder of Aus-Asian exchange: the bizarre Canopy Monitor (
#Varanus keithornei). An Iron Range endemic with closest relatives in Asia & Pacific. And perfectly adapted to moving through the forest canopy with those long limbs and PREHENSILE TAIL!#herpetology#monitorpic.twitter.com/WYbHk8gU1r – mjesto: Lockhart River

You've probably heard about the current

Almost let
#NationalSerpentDay slip away. That would be totally unacceptable! This Yellow phase Rat#Snake (P. alleghaniensis) was our last#snek of 2019. Hoping to spot first of 2020 soon.#BackyardWildlife#reptiles#herpetology pic.twitter.com/fEnjwrmYpu

I miss a lot of things about
#africa, the people and the food for a start. But most of all, I miss the#wildlife! Being a biologist in Africa was a dream.#fieldbiologist#wildliferesearch#herpetology#chameleon https://www.instagram.com/p/B8BhMcfjnA7/?igshid=1azj1ol32efqn … -
A lifer for me, a spotted house gecko (Gekko monarchus) found just under my apartment block. Somewhat larger & more boldly patterned than the common house gecko, this species is not restricted to urban areas and can be found in forests too.

I worked in a natural history museum where the
#herpetology collections alone had 100+ years of scaly critters in high-proof ethanol. *Thousands* of gallons of lizard booze. Fire marshal declared he would NOT send any of his people in if the place caught fire. We were ok that. -
Our Observation of the Day is this Banded Sea Krait, seen in The

Was just discussing in the office, how do people find out about new species? Is it just google scholar alerts?

It turned out that our
#manatees shared their pools with Giant South American River#turtle (Podocnemis expansa) who also makes sounds underwater! Any#herpetologists out there who might have these calls and willing to share some examples? (so we can rule them out)#herpetology pic.twitter.com/yPZ7uxg1VG

In
#herpetology lecture, we debated the "best" species concept definition. Started w 17 possibilities, and after partner discussions/pursuations, we got down to 5, then to 2. No consensus could be reached between genetic and ecospecies.#studentdebate#Species@ArkansasStatepic.twitter.com/SIs1C5b4XZ
