T1. What confuses people? What scares them? What aggravates the panic and anxiety?
#Healthxph We need to try to understand why the public reaction is different. Or is this all due to the effect of social media? pic.twitter.com/idkh5wsbGR

We urge the public to trust Department of Health (DOH). We encourage our colleagues to help in information dissemination. We request everyone to stop posting fake news and claims. Listen to the experts.

Not at all reassuring, doc. I've seen a heated convo on FB between a doctor and lay people. Before the stats became available, doc was using 2% as a hypothetical mortality rate. Lay ppl still fear even a 1%

Support the DOH by sharing their health advisory on coronavirus.
#HealthXPh get the correct information out there to counteract fake news. The solution to pollution is dilution! pic.twitter.com/TyPAjFg6Aa

Closing thoughts on the 2019 nCoV causing panic and anxiety. I can hear myself singing "so many questions, but the answers are so few..."
#HealthXPh Stay tuned, folks! DOH is still the top authority. Don't listen to fake news. Wait for DOH advisories and protect yourselves. pic.twitter.com/FB1EKkSXFi

#healthxph Also let's try to hold our government officials accountable. We just faced a rough first month for 2020, yet confusion is at a rise, and misinformation rampant. They should hold control. https://twitter.com/helenvmadamba/status/1223603492935233538 …

T3 When you see health issues develop, treat them as marketing opportunities. Rather than wait until higher authorities have their say, connect with your audience -- patients -- to offer your personal solutions, giving them someone trustworthy to rely on early on.

State the facts, be transparent, update always but at the same time give “advice” on how to further prevent and TAKE ACTION.

Health sector must learn how to control the narrative to protect it from competing interests. The members of healthcare professional community on social media must be more cohesive and set up/look for alternative info dissemination strategies

I think this also points to people's lack of access to trusted [primary] health care providers who they could reach for accurate & adequate info & advice. Good if they have family members in the health profession (experienced this in family grp chats), but most don't.

People need to be informed in formats that is short and understandable. It must be coming from someone they know. Someone they can trust.

T2. Totally agree with this. When WHO and our DOH published simplified advice, they came off as standoffish: avoid crowds, eat healthy, clean water, etc.--advice that only the affluent can easily adhere to, but not the average citizen.

A lot of reasons for public to get scared, panicky and anxious - but once you find out what 2019 nCoV is and how to prevent it, then experts should learn how to communicate effectively to help people remain calm in times of chaos.

PANIC = People Are Not Informed Correctly. Agree with this.

While trying to combat misinformation during the corona virus outbreak, health professionals must understand that blaming the public won’t help. Health information is not democratized and we have to do something about it so the public can respond and discern better
#HealthxPH -
We also have differences in political opinions and preferences, which influences how people, and influential people, think about
#nCoV19. Sadly, this is from both sides of the public opinion.#healthxph -
T1 Viber chats (especially non-medical where no one can correct misconceptions) containing exaggerated info..
