    Our medical system is designed to quick fix diseases & body parts. This approach doesn’t work for many seniors & those with terminal illness, whose needs are often symptomatic, functional, social & existential. A paradigm shift is needed now!

    This is a subject that is not always comfortable for the Pediatric Community. Do other Pediatric Palliative / Hospice teams incorporate gender identity and sexuality in their initial assessment? If so, at what age do you start this question?

  9. If you are wondering what is like, yesterday one of our team members was stressed about a personal situation and one of us ran for an oil diffuser and another ran for Tarot cards to do a reading and then we all sat together and discussed ALL OF IT.

    Sometimes primary team has tried and there is some unusual degree of challenge that's just being glossed over/not expressed. Sometimes they need to upskill (joint family meeting!) Sometimes there's a role for in advocating for the patient and saying "let's table this" /2

    Absolutely agree. I’ve gotten to hospice admissions where it was very clear no one had addressed goals of care with the patient. is not where this discussion should start. Nor should we persuade people to be DNR if it’s been explained and they’ve made an educated decision.
