    Here ends my read-through of the early release of . I am very much looking forward to the full, finished work. There is a lot in there that will be useful to help guide engineering practice for teams that seek to build sustainable long-lived systems.

    Early release chapters of the are available from O'Reilly (there goes my afternoon)

    I'm extremely proud and pleased that my ridiculous big project is now available to pre-order: I've had a couple years of sleepless nights and countless "aha!" moments putting this together. In my opinion, there is really valuable insight in each chapter.

    Preview of coming attractions: the upcoming has a great chapter on build systems which explains why this is the case.

    If you feel gross about the idea of cutting a production release without doing the equivalent of "make clean", your build system is bad. A good build system will get you parallel builds, caching, and reliability. I don't care which you use, but that's what you should aim for.

    Btw I'm building a string hash map that uses the position in which words appear in your book as hash, and I can't recompile my code for _reasons_. So if you could never modify your book again it would be great.
