    They're moving the crane into position now. So why are we doing this work? It's all part of a nationwide refurbish effort to extend the life of the Weather Service Doppler Radars into the 2030s.

    It'll be much cooler today with highs in the 50s to around 60. Breezy northwest winds will stick around, but they won't be nearly as strong as yesterday.

    Here's the latest info on timing of storms later today/overnight. Any storms that develop this afternoon/evening would have mainly a hail threat. Damaging wind/isolated tornado threat increases overnight.

    Scattered rain is expected on Saturday with the best chances along the Red River and east of I-35. Rain will come to an end during the afternoon as a cold front sweeps through the area. Strong westerly winds are expected behind the front.

    It's a big day for the KFWS weather radar in south Fort Worth. Crews are replacing the radar pedestal. The pedestal is what holds and spins the big radar dish around. It weighs 15,000 pounds! To do that they will have to remove the dome (the white cap) by crane first.

    Thunderstorms are beginning to intensify ahead of an advancing cold front. The stronger thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail and damaging winds.

    Tonight will be cooler than last night with low temperatures in the 30s and 40s. Winds will be breezy out of the northwest at 10-20 mph. Clear skies are expected for most locations except in the northwest where cloud cover will increase early Sunday morning.

    Next Week: Cool and dry conditions will continue on Monday with a warming trend expected during the middle of the week. Our next cold front will arrive on Thursday, bringing a chance of showers and cooler temperatures to close out the work week.

    Chances for rain will return late Friday into Saturday with the arrival of another cold front. The best chances will be near the Red River and across East Texas. Strong winds are expected behind the front Saturday afternoon with highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s.

    10:49p Strongest storm right now 200 miles to the west of Fort Worth, moving NE. Line of storms forming west will move into Metorplex in the early morning.

    A little bit of graupel or soft hail possible with showers moving into the Metroplex. No significant travel impacts expected and ice particles should be pea size or smaller.
