A beautiful moment watching this adult seemingly 'talk' to its chick. Maybe saying...'Hello my beautiful child, take care not to wander too far, but if you do, you'll hear me calling...'

I may have sounded a bit critical of farmers and their lack of regard for in the last few tweets but it's important to put this into context, as it's not without good reason. You have to remember that most farmers are working to margins that any sane person wouldn't

Love this amazing Curlew stained glass art. Also horrified that the French hunting season has been open to shoot 6000 of this IUCN near threatened species

. More shamefully bad journalism . All anti farming agenda; this case no effort to look into reality. Main strain on curlew is foxes badgers & crows who eat eggs but that doesn't suit luvvie narrative. Common sight with sheep & livestock

Wonder how many young we are going to see reared this year across the whole of the remnant Southern English populations ? 😒 The thing with Carrion Crows is they are not only deadly, but intelligent, so you need to get your retaliation in first 🙂

Just when we thought that our weren't doing so well this year, this cute chick was found by Alexa today. That would make it the second one we know of! Celebration time and fingers crossed that it survives!

"Curlew Moon has become one of my favourite ever reads. It is an enchantingly written book from beginning to end. I felt so much part of the walk - the words were poetic, direct, sadly brutal and realistic of the plight of the Curlew" Amazon review

Driving around the Peak District and Yorkshire Dales recently and a huge number of grass fields have been cut already, for silage. This is devastating for breeding . How long will we hear their evocative calls?

There are pressures on everywhere, on their breeding grounds, where they winter, as they migrate. These birds use whole landscapes from the coast to the mountains, get it right for curlews and we save so much else as well. Please donate:

It's . Natural Historian George Balam in his 1912 book the Birds of Northumberland captured the beauty of "A moor without a curlew is like a night without the moon, and he who has not eye for the one and an ear for the other is a mere body without a soul"
