    Greater White-lined Sac-winged Bat, (Saccopteryx bilineata). One of the more common bat species in the area. It can be found under roofs, in caves and on the sides of trees. The wavy white lines on the back are pretty distinctive.

    Gold-rimmed Swallowtail, (Battus polydamas). The swallowtails just never seem to stop moving. If you want a sharp frozen shot you are going to have to use a very high shutter speed.

    Great Curassow, (Crax rubra). A large fruit-eating bird that is commonly seen on the ground but nests in trees. In other parts of Costa Rica they are very secretive but here on the Osa Peninsula struts around like barnyard chickens.

    Slug Moth, (Acharia horrida). The caterpillar of a moth in the family: Limacodidae. They normally feed hidden beneath the leaf. A brush will those urticating hairs is a very painful experience.

    The call of ferruginous pygmy-owl can get a bit annoying on trips as guides are forever playing it to try and get small birds to react and show themselves. Much better when it's the real thing.
